Master Collection dead drop London

London your time has come. I have just finished filling the dead drop so get cracking and be there first. The drop in Amsterdam was very interesting to say the least and I have no doubt that this one will also be very entertaining. The copy that I dropped was a Mac version but you will be able to exchange it for a Windows version of you need to. Everything you need is in this post. I am in town for Flash Camp London and I hope to see you all there tomorrow. I’ll be giving a session covering all of the new features in Flash CS4. There are also many other great speakers lined up and I think there are a few spots left.

Good luck London!
Lee

  7. February 25th, 2009 | 11:35 am

very sneaky with the first clue Lee – gonna head up first thing tomorrow and fingers x’d it’ll still be there (I’m going to assume it’s another clue rather than a box etc…) – the station I get into is pretty near the first location :D

How do you guys pick up the clues out of that post? Like a wav to decode? Where’s the file?

  9. lee
    February 25th, 2009 | 11:41 am

@Pete Awesome! Yes I can confirm that the location is another clue.

  10. February 25th, 2009 | 11:56 am

Ha, nice first clue. Too bad I’m in MN. Good luck everyone!

  11. February 25th, 2009 | 12:27 pm

    Lee, these are great!

I thought I would let you know that when you see this post in Google Reader it brings up an audio player because it thinks your page has a podcast. It makes it a little easy for the feed reader readers. Thought you might want to know that for future drops (if you ever hide some media in the page again).

  12. February 25th, 2009 | 12:33 pm

Wow, I feel so thirsty right now!
If only I was in the right town…

    Hey Lee,
please get over to Gothenburg, or at least Sweden, pronto. Reading about this stuff, but not being able to participate because it’s too far away really isn’t my thing ^^

FINALLY figured out the first clue! I feel so stupid for not checking the obvious. Now all I need to do is book a flight from LA to London! haha

  20. February 25th, 2009 | 3:36 pm

I’m in London, but don’t have the time to even go to the first location :( Thx for doing this though, it’s great to know that you’ve extended this here. I think i’ll just sit here and sip my coffee whilst looking out my window!

I also took a time to realize about the box.
Fun, but I haven’t decode it yet, as I’ve read that an .wav file was found i bet tha is just about loading int “binaryly” like the .bmp, as I live in brazil I’ll try just for the fun.
    XD.

Ps:how do I use an smiley?

If you get to the bush clue, it’s up to you whether or not you leave it there for other people playing.

love to get a coffee right now, but i’m 100 miles away from london :(

  30. February 26th, 2009 | 4:10 am

Lee, you are obviously an evil genius working with an alien superpower to overthrow the human race. Damn your fiendish schemes!

BTW, you do realize that at FlashCamp today everyone is going to pester the living daylights out of you for more clues to this drop if it hasn’t been snapped up by then? ;-)

  31. February 26th, 2009 | 4:11 am

Oh, and I’m not getting the software box clue… Anyone care to shed any light? Er…

  32. February 26th, 2009 | 4:55 am

I wouldn’t know where to start encoding this baby but good look how exciting. Great stuff lee.

  34. February 26th, 2009 | 8:22 am

There aren’t any dang clues in this post!!! Period! ;)

  35. February 26th, 2009 | 9:57 am

it was found (unless it was one of those willy-wonka fakes)–can’t wait to hear how it was found

  36. Daniel
    February 26th, 2009 | 1:26 pm

    I found it.
    I’m a genius.
I just opened it in audacity and selected the spectrum sound view.
You better see a the spectrum at “http://www.flickr.com/photos/tokizr/3312451906/ “.
    Easier than i thought.

    Use uppercase letters!

Wish i wasn’t 15 years old an lived a few thousands miles from London.
But my PC wouldn’t be good enough to run any CS4 anyway.

  38. February 26th, 2009 | 4:24 pm

Well, I’ve just got back from FlashCamp where Lee announced that this London Drop has been found! Better than that, he went through the entire solution and, man, was it complex! The clever chap who found it was there in the FlashCamp audience and received a thoroughly well-deserved round of applause for his efforts. Genius.

I had the pleasure of chatting with the esteemed Mr Brimelow over beer and pizza kindly laid on by those lovely Adobe people and I must say he was very gracious to all the attendees who wanted to pick his brain for advice or just thank him for all his effort for the Flash community (like yours truly). So, Lee, thanks for your time, and for the little snippets of insider info which I can’t possibly divulge to anyone… ;-)

And I hope my semi-drunken ramblings didn’t put you off your pizza!

  39. February 27th, 2009 | 2:20 am

How many clues were there in total? We only got to the 5th one.

  40. February 27th, 2009 | 3:55 am

I do love the wav file spectrum trick, I remember when Nine Inch Nails did the same thing with year zero. Anyway it’s a shame (for me at least) it got found, If I wasn’t cooped up at work I would have been down there in a Flash.

I made it as far as the bush and got the next clue, even though it’s all over, I’ll continue just for the hell of it.
PS – thanks to the person who wiped there arse in a handkerchief and placed it under the bush. Opening it up was a great start to a Friday morning.

I’m going to post a little video on how this one was solved later today. Glad to see that so many got so far.

  43. February 28th, 2009 | 11:04 am

You’ve done it now, Lee! I suspect this is going to run and run. In fact, I think you may just have started a new trend in software promotion which other people are going to emulate as a way to raise public awareness. Guerrilla marketing?

  44. February 28th, 2009 | 6:17 pm

    Lee, you are truly crazy.
This is the best contest idea I’ve ever seen.
