New tutorial on animating Pixel Bender
I just uploaded the new tutorial that shows how to animate Pixel Bender filters. I create a simple contrast filter an use it to transition between two images. I’m using GTween to do the actual animation. I like the structure and syntax of it but any tweening engine would work. This tutorial also demonstrates some of the Eclipse modifications I’ve been making like the snippets panel and the ability to test directly in Flash.

Lee, you rule.
very awesome!
Thanks.
One more great tutorial for your collection, in fact, the tutorial number 100 is coming!!! We will make a celebration for it
Thanks again
Good stuff
Ah I want to start using flash 10 at work. Are the any statistics about the percentage that have Flash 10 installed yet?
Great effect. Brilliant tutorial as always. Keep up the good work Lee
Hi Lee,
Great tutorial – although I think you skipped explaining one important fact when doing Pixel Bender Filter animations: as far as I know you _have_ to set the filtered DisplayObject’s filters array every single time you change the value.
If you have several filters on the object you even have to set all of them again, which can make the animation seem slightly choppy – at least that’s happened when I animated the filters on a video-feed, based on how much noise people were making into the microphone.
Great Tut,
just as always…
I’ve also been busy trying out some PB stuff… What came out was a ‘quite well’ running bumpmapping effect which is pretty impressive in combination with extra bumpmaps. I ‘d be glad if you were interested in such a topic, so if you were, don’t hesitate to contact me for some information exchange…
Lee-
Thanks for the invaluable info. How would one access the variables in the PixelBender twirl filter to animate them? You mentioned in your tutorial that G-tween cannot access an array.
Could TweenFilterLite be used?
Thanks in advance,
RF
