European AIR Tour Stop 1 – Stockholm

Yesterday we held the first event on leg 2 of the European AIR tour in beautiful Stockholm, Sweden. The weather was amazing and was actually similar to back home in California. The first night that I arrived I wasn’t aware that it never gets dark in Sweden this time of year. I woke up at 3:00 am and it was broad daylight outside. Sufficed to say I was up for the remainder of the night.

We got to the venue around 7:00 am and got things setup. I spent a considerable amount of the time playing Guitar Hero 3 as I’m trying to beat the game on expert. My skills are coming along quite nicely. Ryan Stewart started the morning off by delivering the keynote presentation. He gave a nice overview of what were doing with the platform and also gave some demos of Flash Player 10.

I was really happy to finally get to meet Ludvig Jernqvist who hosts and runs the gotoAndLearn() forums. He puts in a lot of time working on them without asking for anything in return. Thanks Ludvig!

Throughout the day we presented a slew of great presentations and a wide range of AIR-related topics. Mike gave a getting started session that showed how to create the proverbial “Hello World” application. Serge talked about AIR signing and deployment. Kevin gave two sessions on HTML, JavaScript, and AIR. Ethan Malasky, who is an engineer on the AIR team delivered a presentation on AIR security. Andre talked about Ajax and AIR. I gave my AIR Conditioning presentation at the end of the day and I managed to create a couple of new examples to keep things fresh. Overall the crowd seemed to dig it.

Stockholm is a beautiful city with a bustling Flash community. Overall they seemed to be genuinely excited about AIR. I’m not just saying that because I’m an evangelist. Of course I probably would say that no matter what.

Your presentation was definitely my favourite even though the whole conference was great. I’m now really thinking about starting coding on Air. Btw, I have been looking for the youtube air application that you showed (the one showing the onairtour youtube videos) to demo to my boss and I could find it. Could you tell me where I can find it, please?
    Hope you enjoyed Stockholm. Thanks

Yeah, the thing with midnightsun is ruining my sleep to. Anyway the adobe onAIR tour was great and it seems so recently Serge was talking about it in his presentation back in the winter months earlier this year.

Sounds like you had a great time.. I´m a bit low for now being able to attend the event. I registred a long time ago but now I got a 3weeks old little daughter so I had to stay home to take care of her this time.

I´m sure the event was great, but I´m sure I´ll get another chance further on. :)

    Sooner ;)

Lee, this is OUTRAGEOUS, adobe releasing software with messed up code, that thwarts and tarts the normal trial mode, to only run ONE DAY!

You of all people should KNOW BETTER, always triplecheck your code,
whether it be actionscript, javascript, pure c or c++, or even plain binary and machine-code (example: 100110001-1000100011100-1100100010)

So thats that, and no harm done, PS: To ALL Adobe People: DON’T EVER MAKE SUCH A MISTAKE AGAIN!!!!!!
