Free World Map Illustrator File

I do a lot of work in the international health area and I’m always looking for a nice vectorized map to use in Flash. Below is a nice one with pretty good detail. It is in Adobe Illustrator format. Click on the image to download it.

Happy mapping!

Excellent find Lee! I’ve been looking for a similar map for a good three months without success.

Yeah you would think they would be easy to find but I had a hard time locating one.

So here’s something you guys might like: the CIA World Factbook (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/) has info for all countries around the world, as well as basic stuff like population, language, that old stuff.

HOWEVER it also has maps for all countries, including in vector format – in PDF, that is, just the same thing as AI files.

The maps are quite complete – country name, latitude, longitude, that kind of stuff. It might need some polishing to get them fit to your needs. However, it’s the best free online resource something like that that someone can find.

“polishing” == “deleting stuff you don’t want”

Any idea of how accurate it is? It looks good but maps really are h#ll. There’s always these tiny countries that none’s heard about that’s missing.

  7. February 16th, 2006 | 3:01 am

Zeh that’s awesome! I wish I’d known about that sonner.

  8. February 16th, 2006 | 11:08 am

Zeh, great link! I never would have thought of the CIA as a source for maps.

  9. February 16th, 2006 | 11:29 am

Guys Slovenia is quite accurate so I suppose others are too (we’re one of “the smallest” countrys in Europe).

  10. February 16th, 2006 | 1:03 pm

Try to take a look at the Netherlands and Luxembourg. It’s not really accurate, it sucks. :D

  11. February 16th, 2006 | 1:55 pm

I’m sure the point is not accuracy, rather saving us a lot of time trying to draw our own! ;) Rockin, thanks! I’m thinkin of wrapping it on a sphere in Swift3d for the classic “spinning globe in Flash”…

I used to use a program called Map Info when I was working in Vietnam, I “made” maps of the 5 northern provinces, that is i started with a linebased map and added stuff based on geographical data from other ministries. Real “academic” and highend stuff, but with great output. Lots of maps available. Don’t how or where to get it now though.

This map is what i’ve been looking for for such a long time. To buy the whole package of map at $199.00 for a piece of world map vector is not that feasible.

The map is set in adobe illustrator format. Once open, there are highlightened lines that you can manipulate to enlarge. The beauty is that you can ungroup it and just enlarge a specific country map. Too bad, the specific country is not subdivided in its respective regions, but hey… this one is more than what you are asking for.

You can change the color of the map as a mark for your work, making reference very convenient.

From the very bottom of my heart, I want to thank you Mr. Lee for being so generous in sharing this map. It helps a lot.
