Colin Moock will be giving a free one-day ActionScript 3 workshop at the Adobe San Francisco office tomorrow. This is the first stop on his ActionScript 3.0: From the Ground Up Tour. If you are just hearing about this now then I’m sorry to tell you that it is sold out. In fact there are over 100 people on the waiting list as well. I will be there shooting some video so at least you can check out some of what goes on.
Go on over the official tour website and look for an upcoming workshop near you. But hurry up as tickets will go very quickly. In addition to the US tour stops, Colin will also be heading out to cities like Tokyo, Sydney, London, Amsterdam, and many more. These events are being produced by FITC so you know they will be good!

I’m excited to announce that next month, Mike Chambers and I will be setting out across Europe for the 2007 European User Group Tour. This is not at all related to the On AIR tour that we did over the summer across the US. We will be visiting 9 European countries in a 2 week timespan so it will be pretty intense. We are each going to taking a single backpack and will be taking trains on some legs.
Now to the important stuff. In each city Mike and I will be giving presentations on Flash, Flex, and AIR to the local Adobe user groups. So if your country is on the list, or even if it’s not, make sure to come and meet with us. I think it will be awesome to visit with the European Flash community as they have been producing some of the most cutting edge Flash work that I have ever seen.

I’m packing right now for a 3-day trip to LA to attend FITC Hollywood. I’ll be giving a presentation called Adobe AIR for Interactive Designers on Tuesday afternoon. I’ll be bringing my camera and will try to get some interviews with some of the star-studded lineup of speakers that will be there. I just uploaded a new tutorial called Webcams, PNGs, and AIR which shows you how to take snapshots from your webcam and then save them to desktop with AIR. This tutorial really shows the power of AIR and how simple it is to create some cool applications with it. Check it out at gotoAndLearn().

Below is a little example of a 3D carousel using Papervision3D. There are many advantages in using a 3D engine rather than the “fake” methods that I have shown before. The biggest is that the engine will take care of scaling and perspective which makes your code much cleaner. You will also get realistic perspective and rotation which is nice.
